Day 6 ~ There's a Gap Where We Meet

It's Day 6 of the Be Yourself Writing Challenge. Today’s prompt is ‘Where I end and you begin.’

'There's a gap in between There's a gap where we meet Where I end and you begin.' - Radiohead

At the edge of reason ~ the edge of sanity ~ the edge of my chair ~ growing edges.

At the edge of the land ~ the edge of the world ~ the edge of the universe.

The edges of our knowledge ~ our boundaries ~ the edge of exploration ~ the edge of what is possible.

Endings and beginnings.

Finishing and starting.

Again and again and again.

Edges of society.

The big issue seller I pass on my way to my writing spot this morning. Her big blue eyes holding my eyes in a hypnotic stare as she asks how I am. She quickly tells me of her 3 children and her need for electricity. 3 months she has been in Scotland. From Belarus she has come from. Smooth in her connection with me; slow in counting out my change, shiny gold coin after the shiny gold coin; from her hand to my hand. Connecting.

The taxi driver from Afghanistan. Revealing his story to me. Whose only dream was to grow old in his home city of Kabul. A 6 month escape, breaking him from his dream, to a country that he never considered living in. He talks softly of his brother who remains in Kabul. Of his reasons for making the treacherous journey. Of his dilemmas and quandaries. His edges of old and new.

Your story is moving and deep I tell him. My girlfriend will write a book, he says, He misses the mountains of his home. We're connected, he says. Ancient Persia and Ancient Celts.

We're all connected.

Edges of our knowledge.

Today I'm reminded of the goddess St Brigid's on her Day. The ancient Celtic fire festival marking the beginning of Spring; the ending of Winter. Longer, lighter days and warmth, hopefully. I read that St Brigid is the patron saint of babies, blacksmiths, boatmen and farmers.

I believe we're all explorers of past and present; present and future. Exploring our edges. Stepping out beyond our edges. Igniting fires of possibility and growing our edges.

That gap in between.

I'm in that gap right now. Finishing my 20 years in Corporate. Birthing a completely new and alternative way of working and living for me. In a new form of Freelance for me. Nine months in as I nurture and watch my business grow, I feel I'm still shedding my old identity whilst at the same time creating my new one.

I know at some point, there will be a gap where we meet - the old and the new. It's a liminal space, a doorway, as Business Astrologer, Vanessa Couto explains.

'This threshold space of pregnant with possibilities, but it is also filled with angst and anxiety over not knowing what is on the other side.

In life, it often means that our sense of identity is hung in suspension. When the Old Self doesn’t quite ‘fit’ anymore, but the New Self isn’t yet fully formed. This is akin to Dorothy’s famous quote from The Wizard of Oz: “Toto, I have a feeling, we’re not in Kansas anymore.”

The only way is forward, facing the road ahead because the only way home is via a more profound transformation.' - Vanessa Couto

Lighting a Fire at the Edge.

When I'm with a client, I help them safely explore their own edges of what they know. And there we hangout a while, as those edges soften, blur and often disappear. When their new reality is born. Sparking the beginning a new rhythm of their life.

5% of our thinking is conscious.

95% is where our subconscious superpowers lie.

95% is where our possibilities are.

95% is where our edges and boundaries are waiting.

'Everything is waiting for you.' - David Whyte

Where do I end and you begin?

There's an infinite cycle of possibilities.

'In out-of-the-way places of the heart, Where your thoughts never think to wander, This beginning has been quietly forming, Waiting until you were ready to emerge.' - John O'Donohue
